It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a band with as much fun and energy as Louisiana’s GIVERS. The indie pop group combines tropical and afro-beat rhythms with sugary sweet boy/girl vocal harmonies – a lethal combination for catchiness.
Their self-titled EP was on heavy rotation in my car at the end of last year and slowly faded out in fear of overplaying the only four songs they have out. Recent news of a debut full-length slated for release this summer and a spring/summer national tour has forced me to revisit this Lafayette buzz band. The shear level of quality musicianship on songs like “Up, Up, Up” in tandem with the amount of emotion they can pack in a single track like “Saw You First” gives me high hopes for these kids. I will definitely be catching them May 10th for their first Boston gig at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge. From the few performance videos I’ve seen I can tell it’s going to be a non-stop carnival the second they set foot on stage.
